CDC Recommends Annual Flu Vaccination for All Six Months and Older

2023-2024 Flu Vaccines Preferentially Recommended for Adults Over 65

Three Flu Vaccines Specifically Recommended for Seniors

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new flu vaccination recommendations, urging all individuals six months of age and older to get vaccinated annually. This recommendation aligns with the World Health Organization's (WHO) guidance on seasonal influenza vaccination.

For the 2023-2024 flu season, the CDC has adopted the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The ACIP has preferentially recommended three flu vaccines for people 65 years and older: Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent, Flublok Quadrivalent, and Fluad Quadrivalent.

These vaccines have been shown to be more effective in preventing influenza illness, hospitalization, and death in older adults compared to standard-dose flu vaccines. Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent is specifically designed for people 65 years and older and contains a higher dose of antigen to boost the immune response.
