An Isanti hockey dad convicted in a brutal cold-case murder has been sentenced to life in prison.
Jerry Westrom, 56, was convicted in late August of premeditated murder in the 1993 killing of 35-year-old Jeanne Ann Childs. Childs was found strangled and stabbed to death in her Minneapolis apartment.
The case went unsolved for years, but new DNA evidence linked Westrom to the crime. He was arrested in 2019 and has been in jail ever since.
In court Friday morning, Westrom was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The judge called the murder "heinous" and "cold-blooded."
Childs' family has waited 28 years for justice. They said they are relieved that Westrom has finally been held accountable for his crime.
